Two Opposing Realities
I don’t like those calls.
The ones where it is still dark outside, and you know something must be wrong for a call to be coming in that early in the morning.
The ones where a loved one has been taken to the hospital.
The ones where your heart stops and time kind of freezes for a minute before information starts to register.
That happened a few days ago.
I rushed to the ER with no makeup, hair a mess, and not caring.
The news didn’t sound good. But I believe in a God bigger than bad news.
As I was leaving, my heart crying out to God, the rising sun caught my attention.
I noticed the incredible beauty as it was coming up and felt a cognitive dissonance between it and the doctor’s report.
Captivated, I thanked God that in the midst of things happening that we don’t understand, He shows up.
He reminds us He is near.
I took a picture.
Later, I looked back at the picture and realized something I hadn’t at the time.
The Emergency sign was in the picture, too.
I hit “edit” and started to crop it out when I realized a truth too important to delete.
In life, just as in the picture, we can look one direction and see Emergency, Fear, Questions, and Confusion. But if we look the other direction, we can fix our eyes on Glory, Beauty, Truth, and Miracles.
That sign being in the picture wasn’t by accident, although it wasn’t intentional.
It was to remind me – and you – not to “think positively”.
That is too shallow.
The deeper water is recognizing there are two opposing realities.
And we get to choose which reality we allow our hearts and minds to stand on.
This is the spiritual makeup of our world.
Today I want to remind you of this truth.
It is too big to keep to myself.
You are too precious to God – and me – not to share it.
We live continually with two realities that oppose each other.
We get to choose where we put our gaze.
And that choice will make all the difference.
